Hi Reader,
I’m Jon Ralston, CEO of The Nevada Independent. I’m writing to introduce myself, thank you for subscribing to our newsletter and give you a little information on what our statewide, nonprofit news organization is all about.
I founded The Indy in 2017 in order to offer Nevadans a nonpartisan, independent news source that goes in-depth on government, policy and politics. We cover education, business, health care, immigration and much more. We also hold dialogue-driven events in order to shed light on key issues and elevate the public conversation.
Since we started our adventure in nonprofit news, the traditional business model for journalism — print publications funded primarily by print advertising — has continued to erode. Meanwhile, the need for quality journalism has never been greater. It’s been gratifying, then, when we have won awards for our work.
I am happy to say that our staff has grown from the original eight to 21 full-time people (plus a number of talented interns, freelancers and contributors).
