2022 has been a busy year for The Nevada Independent. We trained and mentored two outstanding interns and added one full-time journalist to our staff (a K-12 education reporter). We also hired a part-time Spanish language editorial assistant. And we beefed up our election coverage in a variety of ways.
Our election guide covers all the major races in Nevada — but we also have reported on many down ballot, rural, school board and judicial races, plus the three ballot questions.
In early October, we held our third annual IndyFest conference, highlighted by the only gubernatorial debate between Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) and challenger and Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo (R). We partnered with the two Nevada-based NBC Stations to broadcast this important event across the state, fulfilling our mission of ensuring voters are informed about the many choices and issues affecting their lives.
But there is so much more to do and as we end 2022, it once again is time for the annual NewsMatch fundraising drive which plays an important role in our ability to continue to expand our coverage and serve you, our readers and fellow Nevadans.

That’s why we’re excited to share that we have an opportunity to make your donation go even further this year through NewsMatch, a collaborative, national fundraising movement to support independent, public service journalism like ours.
Here’s how it works:
Starting TODAY and through December 31, a Nevada-based philanthropist (who does not want her name in lights) has agreed to match all NewsMatch donations up to $50,000. That means that every dollar donated during this campaign window will be doubled.
Additionally, NewsMatch will match all donations up to $20,000. That means that every dollar up to $20,000 will be tripled and every dollar up to $50,000 will be doubled during this campaign!
